May 22, 2014 - Aura Minerals’ San Andres Mine Certified Under International Cyanide Management Code
The International Cyanide Management Institute (ICMI) announced today that Aura Minerals Inc.’s San Andres Mine in Honduras has been certified in full compliance with the International Cyanide Management Code (Cyanide Code).
ICMI has received and accepted a Detailed Audit Findings Report prepared by an independent professional third-party auditor who evaluated the San Andres Mine against the ICMI's Verification Protocol and found it in full compliance with the Cyanide Code's Principles and Standards of Practices. The Summary Audit Report and Auditor Credentials Form are available on the Aura Minerals Signatory Companies Page of the ICMI web site: http://cyanidecode.org/signatory-company/aura-minerals. The operation must be re-audited every three years hereafter to evaluate continuing compliance with the Cyanide Code.
The Cyanide Code is a voluntary industry program for companies involved in the production of gold using cyanide and companies producing and transporting this cyanide. It was developed under the aegis of the United Nations Environment Programme by a multi-stakeholder Steering Committee. The Cyanide Code is intended to complement an operation's existing obligation to comply with the applicable laws and regulations of the political jurisdictions in which the operation is located.
ICMI has been established to administer the Cyanide Code, promote its adoption, evaluate its implementation, and manage the certification process. A detailed list of the operations covered by signatory companies' applications, along with the full text of the Cyanide Code and its implementing and administrative documents, are available at www.cyanidecode.org
Partner Farmer Project
Aura Minerals is pleased to announce that the "Partner Farmer Project", developed by the Serrote de Laje Project (formerly, Arapiraca Project) team, has won the top award for the 13th event of the Premio de Excelencia da Indústria Minero-Metalúrgica Brasileira (prize for excellence of the Brazilian mineral industry) sponsored by the Minerios & Minerales mining magazine. The Company was given the award in a ceremony held on April 5, 2011 in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
The Partner Farmer Project was created in 2010 to help the communities surrounding the Serrote Project to diversify their crops and improve their agricultural earnings. The project introduced seven new crops, including better varieties of corn, using land owned by the Company. The project has also made such land sustainable, generating a profit to be used for maintenance and re-investment. The community members who participated in the 2010 project received payment for their share of the crops in an event held on February 26, 2011 at site. At this event we invited other community members to participate in the 2011 project.
