Open-pit mining at the San Andres Mine commenced at the Water Tank Hill deposit. This pit was depleted by early 2003 and is currently in the reclamation process. Mining began in the East Ledge pit in early 2003. Mining at the East Ledge pit is currently shut down and will resume once the expansion plan implementation is underway. Present production at the San Andres Mine comes entirely from the Twin Hills open-pit operation. Waste rock from the Twin Hills pit is currently being used to fill and reclaim the upper southeast side of the East Ledge pit.
From 1998 to 2009, the San Andres Mine treated approximately 26.2 million tonnes of material at an average grade of 0.92 g/t Au. Currently, the mine produces approximately 350,000 tonnes of ore per month. A new crusher/conveyor system is under construction, and is expected to sustain production at approximately 470,000 tonnes of ore per month beginning in March 2010.
